We come from different musical styles – folk, classical, jazz, rock, experimental... At the point of creating the band KaulaKau we were not interested in putting all these styles into a bag and fusing them, although this would have been one possible point of departure, but rather in beginning by playing and undertaking an adventure without trying to second guess too many elements. The result, therefore, has been completely unpredictable and at the same time spontaneous. And that’s why we can’t really tell you at the end of the day exactly what is our musical style. Folk-jazz might be an approximate definition, but on the whole we would prefer you, the listener, to define our music, should it be necessary, and to enjoy it. Above and beyond the styles involved and the instruments we use, this is simply the music of KaulaKau.
